FBK is the 5G-CARMEN project Coordinator. It contributes to the definition of the requirements of 5G-CARMEN use-cases from the virtualization, resource and service management perspectives; to identifying the implications of the use-cases’ requirements on the functional and system architecture design. FBK also contributes to the detailed specification of system level architecture. FBK will develop MEC applications with special emphasis on low resource utilization and lightweight virtualization using containers and container orchestration solutions. FBK will work towards network driven integration of C-V2X and ITS-G5 technology components. It will investigate solutions to interface isolated C-V2X and ITS-G5 technologies using 5G-CARMEN network infrastructure as the binding e.g., through traffic relaying. FBK will contribute to developing solutions for physical and virtual resource management across federated edge cloud and RAN infrastructure for the deployed services. To this end, it will investigate centralized, distributed and hybrid realizations for resource control and orchestration across the heterogeneous physical and virtual infrastructure. FBK will investigate approaches to low latency service deployment, orchestration and lifecycle management at the edge. It will collaborate with partners to collect the required data from the pilots and validate it using statistical analysis and cross validation with simulation and prototypes results.
